In May, I return to Cuba for the Cinesex award. I have posted a video on my Facebook page. A transcript of the video follows:
I have been fighting for the rights of the LGBTQ community for about 50 years.
I am humbled when someone shares with me that my life’s work has been a blessing to them.
About a month and a half ago I was notified that I was going to be the first American to be honored with Cuba’s Cenesex Award to be given on May 12th in Havana at the 10th Annual Cuban Gala Against Homophobia .
To say that I am so deeply honored, would be an understatement. I have been to Cuba and witnessed firsthand the wonderful work of Cenesex and Dr. Mariela Castro.
I have also had the opportunity to meet so many of the wonderful people of Cuba, who are some of the friendliest human beings I’ve ever met anywhere in the world. I have to admit it, I fell in love with Cuba.
I want to take this opportunity to invite all our friends to join Phillip and I as we participate in this Journey against homophobia and transphobia in Havana in May. It’s not to late to make your plans to attend.
We think you will have the same life changing experience that we did, by meeting thousands of members of the Cuban LGBTQ community and our straight allies, at this weekend of events.
Please join Phillip and me on this historic trip to Cuba!
